Azure é uma banda inglesa de rock progressivo com temática de fantasia. O projeto foi formado em 2015 pelo vocalista Christopher Sampson, enquanto estudava música em Brighton. Inspirado pela vasta gama de gêneros emocionantes na cena artística da cidade, Sampson decidiu criar uma banda que pudesse explorar essas influências diversificadas. Foi durante seu tempo em Brighton que Sampson tornou-se amigo próximo do guitarrista Galen Stapley. Juntos, eles começaram a desenvolver o som da banda, que combina a complexidade e a ambição do rock progressivo com narrativas de fantasia épicas.

O som da banda costuma incluir canções que são caracterizadas por linhas melódicas intricadas e envolventes, harmonias vocais ricas, além de ter a capacidade de adicionar uma dimensão extra à cada uma de suas músicas e composições que frequentemente incluem seções instrumentais técnicas e que demonstram a habilidade dos músicos. Influenciada por bandas como Dream Theater e Opeth, também incorpora elementos de bandas mais modernas como Haken e Leprous. Além disso, há uma exploração da música clássica, jazz e rock progressivo 70’s.

Fym, o terceiro disco da banda, apesar de ter um nome tão curto, consegue se estender quase até o limite máximo de 80 minutos permitido por um CD. A princípio, essa longa duração poderia facilmente resultar em uma experiência frustrante e desconexa. No entanto, a banda transforma isso em uma obra coesa e envolvente, soando habilmente dentro de uma mistura de contrastes, entregando desde melodias suaves e introspectivas até arranjos vigorosos e enérgicos.

O que torna Fym um disco tão interessante é a forma como essas variações são integradas de maneira fluida e natural. Não há cortes bruscos ou ações sem sentido, muito pelo contrário, há uma sensação de fluidez que é sustentada por ideias composicionais que demonstram não apenas técnica, mas também uma profunda compreensão de como criar peças que emocionam. Cada faixa acaba contribuindo para um todo coeso.

"The Azdinist / Den of Dawns", música que inicia o disco, entrega arranjos musicais e harmonias vocais envolventes. A partir daqui o disco já soa como uma promessa de algo que vai guiar o ouvinte por uma jornada sonora rica e variada. "Fym", faixa título, possui uma atmosfera edificante, ressoando como uma experiência auditiva que eleva o espírito e traz com ela uma energia positiva. "Mount, Mettle, and Key", iniciando por meio de uma cadência amena que gradualmente se desenvolve, a faixa evolui para uma sonoridade mais enérgica e intensa, mostrando-se uma faixa que funciona em dois estados emocionais.

"Sky Sailing / Beyond the Bloom / Wilt", com seus mais de 11 minutos de duração, destaca-se como um dos épicos do disco, oferecendo uma experiência musical expansiva e atraente – como deve ser trabalhos dessa natureza. Apresenta uma gama diversificada de texturas e camadas que vão desde momentos de delicadeza e introspecção até passagens mais intensas e enérgicas, além de um trabalho vocal bastante expressivo que eleva a profundidade emocional da faixa.

"Weight of the Blade" é uma faixa que se destaca por sua seção rítmica poderosa, guitarra estonteante e vocais enérgicos, exemplificando muito bem a habilidade da banda em criar uma música potente e envolvente. "Kingdom of Ice and Light", no geral entrega uma instrumentação melódica, mas com alguns pequenos “espasmos” energéticos em momentos pontuais que adicionam dinamismo à peça. Christopher atinge uma nota extremamente alta próximo do fim. "The Lavender Fox" destaca a capacidade de Sampson em explorar e brincar com sua própria voz, demonstrando sua versatilidade e criatividade vocal. No entanto, a natureza eufórica da música pode fazer com que ela não funcione tão bem quanto poderia.

"Agentic State" é uma peça edificante que se destaca por vários momentos excelentes, criando uma experiência auditiva inspiradora e emocionalmente gratificante. Desde o início, a música estabelece um tom otimista guiando o ouvinte em uma viagem sônica rica e variada. "Doppelgänger" possui uma cadencia muito boa, principalmente devido ao trabalho da seção rítmica. "The Portent", inicialmente é bastante melodiosa, mas conforme avança, atinge pontos muito técnicos e intrincados. Essa progressão acaba demonstrando a versatilidade e a habilidade da banda. "Trench of Nalu", com seus 16 minutos de duração, é indiscutivelmente o clímax do álbum, representando o auge criativo e emocional da banda. Uma peça monumental que utiliza um conjunto de passagens emocionantes e variadas, demonstrando plenamente a habilidade, a versatilidade e a criatividade do grupo, impressionando pela profundidade e riqueza da experiência que ela proporciona. "Moonrise" encerra o álbum por meio de uma instrumentação cintilante e atmosférica complementada por vocais melódicos que criam um clima muito sereno.

Ao longo da jornada que é Fym, podemos perceber não apenas uma excelente execução musical, mas também uma capacidade de transmitir vários sentimentos e nuances emocionais. Fym é um álbum que pode parecer desafiar pela sua longa duração, mas também recompensa, revelando novas camadas a cada escuta. Em seu terceiro capítulo discográfico, a Azure acerta mais uma vez.
