A Tower of Silence é o segundo álbum dos australianos da Anubis. Como é costume da banda, a música é liderada principalmente por fortes guitarras e sintetizadores, alternando entre assinaturas de tempos complexos e melodias dominadas por progressões de acordes mais simples. O álbum possui paisagens sonoras de temas pungentes e gloriosas pausas instrumentais, oferecendo ao ouvinte uma variação de tons tensos e menos tensos sob uma atmosfera sonora que varia entre o estilo de bandas clássicas sinfônicas e de neo-progressivo.

O álbum é conceitual, contando a história de uma garota de 11 anos que viveu e morreu em um asilo para menores na Inglaterra do século 19, ficando presa em um limbo. Muitos anos depois, um grupo de adolescentes invade um dos edifícios abandonados, mais precisamente na parte das enfermarias, e começa uma sessão de um jogo, levando à aparição da garota, que passa a contar sua vida, morte e sua incapacidade de passar para qualquer forma de vida após a morte. O álbum serve como uma metáfora sobre aprisionamento, seja depressão, perda ou doença terminal, abordando também a alienação, a divisão social entre ricos e pobres e o conceito de vida após a morte.

O álbum começa com "The Passing Bell", uma música que traz uma avalanche de estruturas magníficas, cheias de momentos ímpares e fluindo de maneira orgânica, abrangendo muitas ressonâncias emocionais. A faixa muda seus segmentos de maneira brilhante, remetendo a King Crimson, Pink Floyd e Genesis, mas sempre soando única e original. Todos os instrumentos são executados de forma inspirada, com destaque para um solo gilmouriano de guitarra sobre um belo piano.

"Archway of Tears" começa com um delicioso trabalho acústico e vocais limpos, apaixonados e vibrantes, com clara influência de bandas de neo-progressivo como IQ, Arena e Pendragon. As frases acústicas combinam perfeitamente com o Mellotron, resultando em uma música de cadência simples e ótimo resultado final. "This Final Resting Place" é uma peça de melodia forte, com um órgão que faz uma excelente cama de fundo. A faixa possui um som dinâmico gerado por várias camadas instrumentais, incluindo uma guitarra poderosa e diferentes timbres de teclas. É a música do álbum com maior reflexão sobre a morte.

"A Tower of Silence", faixa homônima ao álbum, é melancólica, com letras fortes sobre a tragédia da morte e do espírito que olha em silêncio para fora de sua torre, invejando os seres humanos que vivem. A música começa com um piano bonito e evolui com guitarra e órgão exuberantes, enquanto a percussão se molda. A letra aborda a dor e como o tempo pode amenizá-la, refletindo a tristeza e as reflexões de um espírito preso em uma tumba sepulcral. É uma canção assombrosa que cresce no ouvinte a cada audição.

"Weeping Willow", a faixa mais curta do álbum, possui bela musicalidade, harmonias suaves e uma melodia agradável, com vocais em camadas. A sonoridade space é pontuada por guitarra acústica e teclados atmosféricos. "And I Wait for my World to End" começa com uma sonoridade espacial que logo dá lugar a um forte riff de guitarra, baixo pulsante e bateria enérgica em um tempo incomum. A melodia é memorável, com uma guitarra distorcida e vocais reminiscentes de Roger Waters em seus momentos mais "maníacos". O refrão é cativante e fácil de lembrar.

"The Holy Innocent" é uma música com mudança métrica e ritmo constante, onde a protagonista implora desesperadamente por ajuda, mas só consegue permanecer paralisada. "The Limbo of Infants" é mais simples, com vocais enérgicos, a música sofre outra mudança para entrar na última parte. "Endless Opportunity" fecha a faixa e o álbum, com ótimas entonações corais, lindas harmonias crescentes e um solo de guitarra seguido por um belo coral, como se finalmente os anjos tivessem chegado para libertar o espírito sepultado.

A Tower of Silence é um álbum belíssimo, com uma narrativa extremamente condizente com sua musicalidade, consolidando-se como uma peça clássica do rock progressivo sinfônico moderno.

As is customary for the band, the music is primarily driven by strong guitars and synthesizers, alternating between complex time signatures and melodies dominated by simpler chord progressions. The album features sonic landscapes of poignant themes and glorious instrumental breaks, offering the listener a variation of tense and less tense tones within a soundscape that ranges between classic symphonic and neo-progressive styles.

The album is conceptual, telling the story of an 11-year-old girl who lived and died in a 19th-century English orphanage, trapped in limbo. Many years later, a group of teenagers breaks into one of the abandoned buildings, specifically the ward area, and begins a game session, leading to the girl's appearance. She then recounts her life, death, and her inability to transition to any form of afterlife. The album serves as a metaphor for entrapment, whether it be depression, loss, or terminal illness, also addressing alienation, social division between the rich and poor, and the concept of life after death.

The album opens with "The Passing Bell", a track that brings an avalanche of magnificent structures, full of unique moments and flowing organically, encompassing many emotional resonances. The track transitions its segments brilliantly, reminiscent of King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Genesis, yet always sounding unique and original. All instruments are performed with inspiration, highlighted by a Gilmour-esque guitar solo over beautiful piano.

"Archway of Tears" begins with delightful acoustic work and clean, passionate, and vibrant vocals, clearly influenced by neo-progressive bands like IQ, Arena and Pendragon. The acoustic phrases blend perfectly with the Mellotron, resulting in a song with a simple cadence and a great final result. "This Final Resting Place" is a piece with a strong melody, featuring an organ that provides an excellent backdrop. The track has a dynamic sound generated by multiple instrumental layers, including a powerful guitar and different keyboard timbres. It is the most reflective song on the album regarding death.

The titular track, "A Tower of Silence" is melancholic, with strong lyrics about the tragedy of death and the spirit silently observing from its tower, envying living humans. The song starts with a beautiful piano and evolves with lush guitar and organ, while the percussion takes shape. The lyrics address pain and how time can ease it, reflecting the sadness and reflections of a spirit trapped in a sepulchral tomb. It is a haunting song that grows on the listener with each listen.

"Weeping Willow", the shortest track on the album, features beautiful musicality, soft harmonies, and a pleasant melody, with layered vocals. The spacey sound is punctuated by acoustic guitar and atmospheric keyboards. "And I Wait for my World to End" starts with a spacey sound that soon gives way to a strong guitar riff, pulsating bass, and energetic drumming in an unusual time signature. The melody is memorable, with distorted guitar and vocals reminiscent of Roger Waters in his more "manic" moments. The chorus is catchy and easy to remember.

"Endless Opportunity" closes the track and the album, with great choral tones, beautiful rising harmonies, and a guitar solo followed by a beautiful choir, as if finally, the angels had arrived to free the buried spirit.

A Tower of Silence is a stunning album, with a narrative perfectly aligned with its musicality, establishing itself as a classic piece of modern symphonic progressive rock.
