Criando um disco que é amplamente reconhecido como o ponto culminante da discografia da banda, e sua influência e impacto são inquestionáveis.

A faixa-título, "Symbolic", abre o álbum com um riff marcante que se destaca como um dos meus riffs preferidos de sempre. A música é uma exibição espetacular de mudanças de tempo, bateria inovadora e vocais intensos que estabelecem imediatamente o tom do álbum. "Zero Tolerance" segue como um dos clássicos da banda, destacando o trabalho de guitarra atonal e as harmonias complexas que são uma marca registrada de Chuck. A evolução de suas habilidades de composição é evidente, com uma abordagem que combina brutalidade e técnica de forma brilhante.

"Empty Words" explora o lado mais progressivo da banda, com uma introdução limpa e desenvolvendo-se em uma sequência que mistura calmaria com caos musical. A faixa demonstra uma habilidade impressionante para alternar entre seções melódicas e riffs intensos, criando uma experiência musical de tirar o fôlego. "Sacred Serenity" oferece uma introdução promissora com baixo e bateria, mas não atinge o mesmo nível de impacto que as faixas anteriores. No entanto, ainda apresenta momentos de grande virtuosismo, especialmente na linha de guitarra inicial. "1,000 Eyes" é uma das faixas mais memoráveis do álbum, com uma performance de bateria de Gene Hoglan que é excepcional. A complexidade rítmica e os solos oferecem uma verdadeira joia do death metal. "Without Judgement" se destaca com um riff estereotipado de metal, um solo memorável e uma linha melódica impressionante, mostrando a habilidade de Chuck em criar riffs que permanecem com o ouvinte.

"Crystal Mountain" se posiciona com uma sonoridade que fica entre "Sacred Serenity" e "Zero Tolerance", oferecendo uma combinação de qualidade e impacto. A bateria novamente é um destaque, com a ruptura dramática no meio da música proporcionando uma surpresa gratificante. "Misanthrope" começa com uma introdução veloz e técnica, e embora seja considerada a faixa mais "fraca" do álbum, ainda apresenta riffs agradáveis e mantém a qualidade geral do disco. A faixa de encerramento, "Perennial Quest", é uma obra-prima que fecha o álbum de maneira apoteótica. Uma verdadeira demonstração do auge técnico e criativo da banda, apresentando seções acústicas que, embora possam ser vistas como desnecessárias por alguns puristas, estão perfeitamente integradas à narrativa musical.

Embora Chuck Schuldiner tenha falecido em 2001, sua influência e legado permanecem vivos através de sua música. Symbolic é um testamento do seu talento e visão, e seu impacto na história do death metal é indelével. O álbum não é apenas um marco na carreira de Death, mas também uma peça fundamental na evolução do metal extremo, garantindo que a importância de Chuck Schuldiner e sua música continue a ser reconhecida e celebrada.

Creating a record widely recognized as the pinnacle of the band's discography, its influence and impact are undeniable.

The album is distinguished not only by its characteristically brutal sound but also by its boldness in incorporating progressive and sophisticated elements. Symbolic is not a mere exercise in brutality; it is a deep dive into a rich and multifaceted musical experience. Each track features a range of passages from smooth cadences to crushing riffs.

The production of Symbolic is perhaps the most refined in the band’s career. The clarity and sonic detail allow every element of the music to stand out powerfully. Chuck Schuldiner's phrasing, characterized by brutal riffs and complex compositional techniques, reaches a new level of excellence. The crystalline production complements the intensity of the performances, resulting in a sound that is both relentless and majestic.

The title track, "Symbolic", opens the album with a memorable riff that stands out as one of my all-time favorites. The song is a spectacular display of time changes, innovative drumming, and intense vocals that immediately set the tone for the album. The evolution of his compositional skills is evident, with an approach that brilliantly combines brutality and technique.

"Empty Words" explores the band's more progressive side, with a clean introduction developing into a sequence that mixes calmness with musical chaos. The track demonstrates an impressive ability to alternate between melodic sections and intense riffs, creating a breathtaking musical experience. "Sacred Serenity" offers a promising introduction with bass and drums but does not reach the same level of impact as the previous tracks. However, it still presents moments of great virtuosity, especially in the initial guitar line. "1,000 Eyes" is one of the most memorable tracks on the album, featuring an exceptional drum performance by Gene Hoglan. The rhythmic complexity and solos offer a true gem of death metal. A true demonstration of the band's technical and creative peak, featuring acoustic sections that, while possibly seen as unnecessary by some purists, are perfectly integrated into the musical narrative.

Although Chuck Schuldiner passed away in 2001, his influence and legacy remain alive through his music. Symbolic is a testament to his talent and vision, and its impact on the history of death metal is indelible. The album is not only a milestone in Death’s career but also a crucial piece in the evolution of extreme metal, ensuring that Chuck Schuldiner’s importance and music continue to be recognized and celebrated.
