Visto como referência da cultura rock desde o seu lançamento, sua perfeição é constantemente trazida de volta à tona para medir impiedosamente a qualidade de infinitas bandas e álbuns de prog rock contra ele. Este é também, o álbum que irá impulsionar a fama relativamente pequena da banda até então em círculos de contracultura para o estrelato internacional e empurrar a indústria do rock para novas alturas, não só nas expectativas de vendas, mas também em sofisticação técnica, tanto no estúdio, quanto em turnê, como também em termos de progresso sonoro, bem como os aspectos visuais.

O próprio quarteto começou a perceber que estavam trabalhando em algo muito especial e ligado ao sucesso, mas mesmo assim, creio que não imaginavam que chegariam em algo de proporções tão majestosa. A gênese do álbum, não foi tão trabalhosa quanto o esperado, pois a banda pegou algumas ideias antigas e as retrabalhou. "Brain Damage", por exemplo, foi escrita na época de Meddle e a ideia básica de "Us And Them" tinha sido rejeitada por Antonioni para a trilha sonora de Zabriskie Point. Enquanto a maior parte do que se encontra no álbum foi testada durante o início da turnê de 1972, o disco finalmente veria seu lançamento no primeiro dia de março de 1973.

Pink Floyd nunca foi uma banda de músicos virtuosos, mas todos eles sempre souberam tirar o máximo de seus instrumentos e também da tecnologia a sua disposição, para assim, não serem vistos apenas como mais um grupo de space rock com incursões progressivas. Trata-se de uma banda que sempre quis ir muito além de expectativas criadas e o seu ápice está exatamente em Dark Side of the Moon. Mesmo décadas depois do seu lançamento, o disco ainda impressiona pela produção do mestre Alan Parsons, que foi transformando as ideias experimentais da banda em canções produzidas de forma sofisticada e pelo clima cadenciado por sons de atmosfera única, fazendo do álbum, praticamente uma espécie de “filme para os ouvidos”, tamanha busca de interação entre música e ouvinte.

Dark Side of the Moon ilustra perfeitamente o que é uma banda agir como banda, sem estrelismo de nenhum dos membros que pudesse atrapalhar o desenvolvimento e, obviamente, o resultado final do disco. É sem dúvida, um dos exemplos mais clássicos de química perfeita na mistura de vários elementos em um único álbum. Musicalmente e liricamente hipnotizante, não se trata apenas de um álbum pra simplesmente ouvir enquanto bate papo com um amigo, fuça no computador ou usar de pano de fundo diante de situações que vão fazer com que as atenções em outras coisas sejam divididas com ele, é uma obra que faixa a faixa faz com que pensemos sobre nossas vidas de um modo geral acerca de situações como as das dificuldades em fazer escolhas, a escravidão do homem diante do tempo, o dinheiro e suas falsas felicidades e ilusões e a correria do mundo no seu dia a dia.

Dark Side of the Moon fez com que o popular abraçasse o experimental, colocou o Rock Progressivo onde ele jamais esteve, influenciou e influencia inúmeras bandas e marcou pra sempre a maneira de fazer música. Aquele disco gravado em 1973, até hoje segue - e continuará seguindo - atemporal, seja pelo seu conceito o qual inclusive parece mais atual do que nunca ou seja pela produção e ideias que estavam muito a frente do seu tempo. Uma das obras musicais mais significativas do século XX.

Seen as a benchmark of rock culture since its release, its perfection is constantly brought back to measure, often ruthlessly, the quality of countless prog rock bands and albums against it. This is also the album that would propel the band's relatively small fame in counterculture circles to international stardom and push the rock industry to new heights, not only in sales expectations but also in technical sophistication, both in the studio and on tour, as well as in terms of sonic progress and visual aspects.

The quartet themselves began to realize that they were working on something very special and closely tied to success, but even so, I believe they couldn't have imagined that they would achieve something of such majestic proportions. The album's genesis wasn't as laborious as expected, as the band took some old ideas and reworked them. "Brain Damage", for example, was written during the Meddle era, and the basic idea of "Us and Them" had been rejected by Antonioni for the Zabriskie Point soundtrack. While most of what is found on the album was tested during the early 1972 tour, the record would finally see its release on the first of March, 1973.

Pink Floyd was never a band of virtuosic musicians, but they always knew how to get the most out of their instruments and the technology at their disposal, so they wouldn't be seen as just another space rock group with progressive leanings. This is a band that always aimed to go far beyond created expectations, and their pinnacle is precisely in Dark Side of the Moon. Dark Side of the Moon made the popular embrace the experimental, placed Progressive Rock where it had never been before, influenced and continues to influence countless bands, and forever marked the way music is made. That album, recorded in 1973, remains timeless to this day—and will continue to be—whether for its concept, which even seems more relevant than ever, or for its production and ideas that were far ahead of their time. One of the most significant musical works of the 20th century.
